Maybell’s House Inc. serves as a pillar to the community fostering economical education, homeless prevention, re-stabilization, and youth diversion. We are seeking to secure funding for a facility that would serve as a temporary transitional housing unit.
Together We Can !
Maybell’s House Inc. was established to provide an open door to the community, a place to turn to for direction, guidance, and restored hope. In a short period of time I have seen, heard, and experienced so many, too many, of or youth parish. Many families living in hotels, shelters, or fallen on such hard times they have become homeless. We formed an alliance and asked what is missing in our community to cause such turmoil? What can we do to help turn it around? I searched and searched for answers and found myself calling on my grandmother, Maebelle. As we spoke, I realized, I often turn to her for answers, guidance, and prayer. I remembered in that moment, I was not scared of failing when I moved out and began my adult life. I knew, and still know, if I ever need my grandmother for anything even a home, she will always be there for me. More importantly, she has guided me through the most difficult times and decisions, for her I am forever grateful. It is Maybell’s House goal and dream to provide the same love, support, and stability for the community as Maebelle has provided our family.
We serve unaccompanied homeless and at-risk youth – and young parents with children of their own – up to their 25th birthday. Our ongoing mission is to end the cycle of youth homelessness. To do this, we have built four core services available in various Ocala communities, we operate in volunteer teams: Youth Outreach, Young parents/adult Outreach, Mentoring, Education, and Transitional Housing. We offer mobile survival assistance, emergency rescue, and safe place for all youth under 18 years old. We are quite proud of the fact that our volunteer teams build trust and become a consistent resource to stabilize and otherwise help those in our community that are most vulnerable.
· Our outreach program is open to all children between 8-18. We promote our outreach programs at all events, festivals, and fundraisers. Parents, Teachers, or are any concerned authority can recommend an individual to our outreach program. Children may also request to be in the outreach program, all though we must be able to contact their parent or guardian for approval. Our outreach program assesses each child on a case by case basis and composes a success plan for that child. The child is assigned a promoter and an advocate to help influence positive direction, serving as a consistent resource, and a trusted supporter.
· Our Young Parents Young adults outreach works much like our Youth outreach, with added support in transitional housing, financial management, employment readiness, and parenting skills. In our young outreach we have success pathways that is designed to provide support through the 25thbirth year. This program can also be accessed at all events, festivals, and fundraisers.
· To have a mentor is important in all stages of life and we truly believe that it takes a village, or a community. We built are Mentor program on three pillars – love, support, and honesty. Maybell’s House trains our mentors to lead with out the foundation of love, provide ongoing support, and be a confidant. We have mentors for all ages and even offer mentorship camps that work on developing social skills, building healthy relationships, and problem solving skills. Maybell’s house promotes organized sports involvement and host improvement camps and personal training opportunities.
Our educational programs cover subjects that are not discussed in conventional institutions. We have designed four C.O.R.E. classes, financial wellness, family management, vital life skills, and lifestyle technology. These classes are optional and open to the public, to register visit MJBFamily.org or in person at Maybell’s House.
Our transitional housing is a program that we are very proud to offer! Like our other programs transitional housing candidates will be addressed on a case by case basis, but usually are set in conjunction with a success pathways plan. To be considered for this plan you must pass a drug test and stay drug free throughout the program. In addition to a contract of rules and regulations, the candidate must maintain a minimum full-time status as an employee or student or part-time both or risk removal from the program.
